Dear Y - She may also be suffering from a case of tracheitis which is
induced by the endotracheal tube that is inserted in her windpipe during
surgery.  There can be some inflammation and swelling, which results in a
hacking cough and some gurgling.  I would keep a close eye on her, and if
you notice any difficulty breathing, or a marked decrease in activity,
then I'd see one of the local vets or emergency clinic.
