The Night Before Christmas

Twas the night before Christmas, all around the world
Our ferrets are snuggled in hammocks, around their cage-mates they're curled

When dawn breaks they'll get treats, maybe raisins or a squeak toy
They'll dook and run and play with us, and share in our Christmas joy

We know that they are happy, safe, and well cared for
And that for the rest of their lives, they could not want for more

But let us not forget, those ferrets we cannot see
Those in homes that long ago, the ferret has lost its novelty

Those ferrets bought on a whim, or those passed from home to home
As each previous owner just lost interest, and has left the ferret all alone

They wind up in the shelters, in a strange cage and room
Wondering if their owners will come back for them soon

In the shelter they have warmth and love, they have food and medical care
Yet all is not right; their Christmas wish is for their own home to share

They don't mind the shelter, but when they sleep, dreams fill their heads
Of a home filled with love and their own hammock for a bed

There are many ferrets around, and not enough hours in the day
For each to have the individual time that they need to run and play

So in this holiday season think of these ferrets and more
That need your love and compassion to face what life has in store

And remember the folks that are doing their very best
To make the shelter a home and give the ferrets a safe place to rest

If you can't adopt another, have no room to take a fuzzy in
Perhaps consider a donation to help with bills and filling food bins

Medical care for these fuzzies can create a cost quite high
Yet shelter operators provide the care without ever blinking an eye

So in this season of giving, forget not the abandoned lonely
And those everywhere trying to make their shelters more homey

Shelters do all they can to help these ferrets to live
And more ferrets will if only more people will give.

Best Wishes to you all and your FurKids this Holiday Season!!!
