ferret and puppy

A week ago I got a chihuahua puppy.  I figured that it and my ferret (who is
a year old) would get along reasonably well since they are just about the
same size.  I took time introducing them and all that.  But my ferret is
TERRIFIED with the puppy.  Granted the puppy is hyper and wants to play all
the time- but my ferret won't stand her ground or go near the dog.
Suggestions?
