keeping the place ferret safe???????

I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions on the age of a ferret for a
first time owner.
 
Another question is, if I have my ferret out in my house will they get hurt
by little things in the carpet like lint.  Do I need to watch that they
don't pick something like that up in their mouth.  I'd appreciate anyones
response to my qestion.  I thank those who sent me items about bathing these
wonderful furry friends.
