This new tax rule applies to charities and non-profits. If it applies,
you should check it out so you have a set purchasing procedure for
2011. Will shelters have to send 1099's to the company they buy their
kibble from? Or what about people who buy bedding from shelters -
especially with a check. Do they get a 1099 if they buy $600 worth
of bedding? Do adoption fees apply?

Businesses

"How insane is the new rule on 1099 filings? It will go way beyond the
tracking of those who buy gold coins. If you buy your employees a pizza
once a week, that costs $20, you will have to provide your local
pizzeria a 1099 form, since the annual amount of your purchase will be
over $600, says Reuters"

[Moderator's note: In my opinion people are panicking without knowing
all the details. Much is being read into this provision, but the IRS
rules have not even been written yet! Let's wait for details before
deciding how and if it applies to shelters and pizzerias. BIG]
