I am a volunteer driver for a local wildlife rescue/rehab. I normally
do not see the inside of their facility because my job is only to
deliver orphaned or injured animals to them.

I recently found out they have had a ferret there for over a year. He
had come to them by way of the humane society. This humane society
happens to be in Windsor Ontario, Canada, a city that has banned
ferrets, so they do not keep them. The lady who runs the rehab takes
ferrets from them and has always found homes for them in the past, but
not for this particular ferret. Not only had he been there for a year,
but he has spent the entire time in a cage since they are not equipped
to let a ferret roam free.

When I found out about him, it just broke my heart. The nearest ferret
rescue is 4 hours away and at first I thought I would take him there,
but they did not respond when I asked if I could and as the days went
on I decided I had to bring him home, much as I was not looking for
another ferret.

So now Rocco, a darling huge albino boy, is living with me. He is a
bit nippy and who can blame him, but I have been through that before
as most of us have.

I have him isolated in our large bathroom away from the other ferrets
and am awaiting his blood test result for ADV. I have been very careful
about washing my hands, even changing clothes and shoes after I have
been playing with him. I have all fingers crossed that it will be
negative, but what if it turns out to be positive??? What will I do?
Has anyone else ever had this problem?

Inge. A very nervous wreck right now.....
