Channel 12 news here in Richmond just announced that Carol McCraig was
given only one charge against her. I think that was unfair but also I
do have to side with the state a little where Carol was overwhelmed
and the ferts in her charge were not being cared for as they should
have been.

Over all I feel Carol did a most magnificent job over the years
supporting the needs of our throw away society where these animals
suffered from them, not Carol. Carol supplied great care to thousands
of animals over many many years. She just fell into bad health and was
overwhelmed with work she could not do herself. For lack of help she
did all she could but things got out of hand. Is so very sad this all
has had to dissolve.

For sure in the future there will be many thousands of ferrets that
will now not have a rescue. This will mean lots of suffering and horrid
things that will happen to many ferts. This is a terrible situation.

I believe the state needs to better control the sale of ferrets. Not
to make them illegal but to better qualify those who gets one. The
state also needs to take better control of ferret rescues, not that the
current private rescue shelters don't to a good or adequate job because
they most certainly do. I do know the Richmond, Virginia SPCA is making
room for ferret rescue which I feel is needed and this may help some.
But to control the problem by nipping it in the bud is the way to go so
such rescues will not be so badly needed, the numbers of rescues to be
reduced.

Yet in a perfect world your headlights will melt the snow in front of
you but that won't happen soon either.
