Several things come to mind with this-

Bad ferret breath is a red flag to all ferret caretakers!

FIRST of all check the dental condition of your ferret. Placque, or
rotting teeth will cause bad breath and the most likely course of action
before you get gum infections, enlarged spleen adn kidney damage is to
have the ferret with tooth problems medicated with an antibiotic and
then get the problem teeth extracted.

Also bad breath can be a red flag for liver or kidney problems so a vet
visit is in order!
