The Black Footed Ferret birthing season is in full swing! Here in
Arizona the Phoenix Zoo BFF center has had mom's birthing since May
15th. The zoo has 24/7 cameras going and they are focused on the
birthing mothers. A word of caution for the sensitive...you may see
kits pass away or be stillborn, they do not interfere with the birthing
moms or nature's course at the breeding center. The link for the
Phoenix Zoo BFF cams is www.camzone.com/phx-ferret

Some ferrets will stay at the center, others will be sent to other
breeding locations presumably to lend to some diversity in the gene
pool. Last year ferrets were brought in from Colorado to be released
into Aubrey Valley here in Arizona. Twice a year AZ Game and Fish,
along with volunteers, go out and spotlight for these amazing and
fragile little creatures to assess the minimum population in the wild.
Our numbers went down this last count, hopefully they will go back up
this year. For anyone interested, here is a little video I made during
last years spotlighting of a little BFF hob I caught. Apologies for the
poor timing, you will have to pause it to read...too busy, as usual,
to spend a lot of time with editing.
