For those of you who are interested, I took my 1lb Einstein in for his
chest X-ray this morning(this morning he weighted 19 ounces!!!!). The
results were a little surprising and not at all what we excepted. I took
my 3lb Tyson in, too. My Vet is one who see very few ferrets and he
decided to take X-rays of both boys. Taking in account that the one is
twice as big as the other, the X-rays clearly showed that Einstein has a
very small heart! Even I, who had no idea what I was looking at-could
clearly see it. And we are talking the actual size of the heart as
compared to how much space it takes up in the chest cavity. We do realize
that Tyson's heart should be larger because he is the larger ferret. So
yes, his heart was twice the size of Einstein's. But Tyson's heart almost
filled the chest cavity while Einstein barely took up half the space. The
Vet thinks this could explain his "exercise intolerance". He is going to
hit the books to see what he can find out and he told me to see what I
could come up with, too and we will meet again on Friday. He did not do
blood work as little Einstein was extremely stressed by the x-ray and
Ultrasound. I tried to do a search of the archives, but everything I typed
in came back as "no matches found". If anyone was any clue what I can type
in to pull up some info, please let me know!! Or if anyone has had a
ferret with a similar condition, please-anything will be a huge help!!!!
Maybe it is just the difference it ferret personalities, because Tyson is
an outgoing, overbuy, dancing, happy clown while Einstein is a rather quiet
and reserved, but while Tyson was entertaining everyone in the Vet clinic,
Einstein just laid in his cage watching. And all the way home, Tyson is up
looking out, going back and forth-Einstein laid still. And now that we are
home-Tyson is terrorizing the rice box-Einstein is laying at my feet. Poor
little guy! I need to find a way to help him! Anyone with any
suggestions????? Thanks so much!!!!
