A member of our club, who does not wish her name or phone number to be
posted, is having extreme difficulties with a biting ferret. The ferret is
four months old, seems healthy, and has a MAJOR attitude problem towards
humans. It came from a pet store where he was kept in an aquarium all by
himself with no or very little human interaction. They have had this
ferret for about a month, and things are not getting better.

They have tried bitter apple, treats, scruffing and scolding the ferret,
biting the ferret back, and are at their wits end. They have two other
ferrets, and the biter gets along fine with the other ferrets, it's just
humans that he's afraid of. When they try to give him treats, he bites
first and then takes the treat. THe owner had to go to the ER the other
night because of the severity of the bite - this is a ferret that bites and
hangs on.

They would like any helpful hints that people can give them (please send to
me directly) or, failing that, a good home with someone who has the time to
work with this ferret. They are in Illinois, near St. Louis.

Please no flames about their tactics - I won't bother forwarding them. Any
help, on the other hand, would be greatly appreciated.
