Hi Emily,
 
I have had several ferrets who were not descented.  The only difference
is occasionally during play or sleep, they let go with some smell.  Now
mind you, it is nasty but goes away quickly.  Just a few minutes and no
more smell.
 
Poofing is just an occasional thing.  Not everyday.  So I honestly
wouldn't worry about it.
 
BTW, each ferret also has a different poofy smell.  I always know who it
is.  Lol.
