With temperatures reaching 80 degrees and more across the whole US, I just
thought I would remind everyone to try and keep your ferts cool.  Ferrets
overheat relatively easily and quickly.  A ferret panting is not a good sign
and you should try to get your ferret to a cooler location immediately.
Leaving ferrets, dogs, or any other creature dependent on you in a car is
NOT a good idea - EVEN IF ONLY FOR A FEW MINUTES!  Your car, with a little
sun, quickly turns into a oven with temperatures often reaching 20 degrees
or warmer then the surrounding air.  Leaving the car windows open some
really doesn't make the car that much cooler.  It still gets hot in there -
TOO HOT!
 
Also take care when you take your ferrets to the beach and park on hot days.
Look for shadey or cool areas for your ferrets to explore.  Also pay
attention to how warm your home is.  People have suggested many ways to keep
your ferrets cool and comfortable including air-conditioning, blocks of ice,
misting the ferrets, wet towels, etc.  Overheating your ferrets is a
dangerous situation that you have the power to avoid.
 
I haven't seen this reminder posted here in some while and thought it was
worth saying again.  ;)
