Someone asked last week if it was true that in Judi Bell's book she says
it's ok to use cedar.

She offers 3 types of litter: clay, clumping and wood (I don't agree with
using clumping either), and under wood, she mentions using recycled
newspaper pellets (which she thinks is the best - no dust, good absorption)
and cedar litter.

In the section under flea control, she mentions that cedar is a good flea
deterent and is not harmful to ferrets nor does it cause an allergic
reaction.

She also has several photographs of ferrets in cages with wood chips that
look like pine - she does say that aspen shavings are ok, and I've heard
others say the same thing - but you can't tell aspen from pine when looking
at a picture.

Her listing of shelters is incomplete, and these are about the only things
in her book that I don't agree with or like.

No book is perfect - at least we haven't seen it yet - but all in all, the
book is quite good, informative, and accurate (IMO) and I recommend it
highly.

I do not, however, recommend using cedar for litter or bedding. (again, MO)
