The story starts here:
Maggie Ciarcia a certified (Carmel, NY) wildlife rehabilitator and long
time ferret owner - rescuer heard about the Pound Rindge 5 ferrets.
Five of more than 130 animals which were hoarded by a well intended
teenage rescuer. SPCA investiagted and seized the animals who were
lumped into a small barn after the property owner filed complaints and
concerns about the condition of the animals on her property.

The ferrets: Buddy, albino male protector of the group : Pumpkin, DEW
male; Puck dark sable male; Pheobe, female sable; Papito, older male
sable, and rescue caretaker Maggie Ciarcia, who picked them up at the
barn on Dec. 10,2006.

All five were crammed into a filthy cage with no bedding. She took
the home and started feeding and hydrating them.

Dec 11, all 5 received: baths nail clippings, ear cleanings, mite
treatments. More assessment.

Dec 14 Buddy is failing- thin, ill and in pain and was placed in the
care of a vet. Much lab, xray was done and he returned back to Maggie
on Dec 14 with a guarded to poor prognosis.

Buddy left this world on Dec. 16, among other problems with a suspected
tumor pressing on his trachea is the probability of canine distemper-
Maggies rescue is in lockdown.

Meanwhile 3 of the remaining ferrets are doing very well, one other
Puck is suffering vestibular posture most likely from the massive
infection from ear mites which left him with puss draining from his
ears.

More updates to follow.
