First, my sincere and heartfelt condolences to those who've (ever) lost a
little one and prayers for those that aren't well.
 
A *very* positive, accurate and informative segment about ferrets was aired
on FOX nine o'clock news in Albuquerque tonight.  A couple in Houston,
Gail and Jimi Hummer, run a shelter out of their home and their daughter
is a vet!  She also spoke positively about having them as pets.  Nothing
negative at all.  The reporter referred to them as "domestic carnivores"
and stressed that they are not wild!  Proofing, spaying of females, rubber
bands, recliners, etc. were covered.  They talked about feeding a ferret
diet, vet care, not being left in a cage all the time, etc.  All the while
ferrets were dancing and playing, getting cheerios, scaling barriers and
playing in tubes.  One (sorry, I didn't catch his name) continually stole
a flash unit from the camera man's "light bag".  A few of the fuzzies were
caught giving kisses to their humans, too!  This was much more than just a
quick mention :)
 
Lisette recently wrote about ferrets playing in the bathtub and also of
leaving the faucet trickling.  Something to consider here (if left
unsupervised) is if a ferret were to pull toweling or some other object
into the tub where it could act as a stopper over/in the drain, drowning
could occur if enough water were allowed to collect and remain.  Wendy
Winstead wrote of a very similar experience in her book, where, if I recall
correctly, at least one adult female and some kits were found completely
exhausted from swimming for several hours upon hers and some of her friends
return.  The ferrets had pulled a towel into the tub, which covered the
drain, and was full from a faucet left dripping for drinking water, I
believe incase their water bowl got spilled.  The tub was being used as a
makeshift cage.
 
Neither Toby nor Girlie had a reaction to Fervac-D (thank goodness!).
Toby's was given in November, Girlie's in December, each at a different
clinic for different reasons.  I pretreated both with Children's Benadryl
for two days prior, and then approximately 45 minutes before.
