I got an e-mail from someone who read the Net magazine and saw my letter to
the editor. Said there was an article recently in his local paper about a
ferret that crawled under a door and broke into the baby's crib and
proceeded to chew on her face quite badly. The father apparently threw the
poor ferret against a wall to kill it when he discovered what it was doing.
I'm curious to know if this is actually a recent article or if it was about
that famous case that keeps ferrets illegal in CA? Anyone know? I have no
idea where "local" is for this person even, that was pretty much all they
wrote.

We're having a small problem in our ferret household, seeing as Doughnut,
the new guy, has been an only ferret for two years and is scared to death of
all my other ferrets. At playtime he climbs up on a kitchen chair and lies
there (safe from other, less agile ferrets) until it's time to go back to
his cage. Because he's so nervous, Milo really hangs a beating on him every
chance he gets (big bully baby ferret that Milo is). Our solution has
simply been to apply Bitter Apple to the back of Doughnut's neck and let
them "Dook" it out (hehehe). We figure it will get better in time. No one
is making anyone else bleed, so it can't be all that bad. I have yet to
have had a ferret that couldn't be integrated into my clan after some work
and effort. So to the person having the problem with the new baby and old
guy, hang in there. It should sort itself out.

My cat Isis eats Milkbones, but not raisins. And they can't be fresh from
the box Milkbones, they have to be stolen from the ferret Hidey Hole and
eaten in secret. My other cat, Inti Bo, eats bbq chips, and they can be
from anywhere...inside the bag, in your hand on its way to your mouth, from
your lips if you don't chew fast enough. He also eats Hidey Hole cheerios.
The dog eats everything, including food-dish-flung-by-ferrets-food. Ah, my
relaxing to come home to household....<grin>
