Sandi, I have two 5+ ferrets who haven't had their anal glands removed.
The female has only had problems twice, but the male gets his expressed
once a year or so.  I do it in the shower, that seems to keep the smell
down and the warm water makes it easier on him.  That's how I bathe them,
also.  In the shower with me.
