Just a thought..  you could use the argument that he is not giving them for
free... he has to carry the cost of feeding & Housekeeping for them....
possibly for years on "goods" that are near unsaleable.  In surrendering
them to you, he is in fact leessening the stores overheads on feeding pets
that in all probability could be there for a very long time.  that may help
sway him in your favour... only a small point I know... but it may add
weight to your case
