Hi there!
First of all, my father recently mailed me a news article about 3000 ferrets
at Path Valley Farm who died from Agway food (so they think). How incredibly
sad! My first ferret I ever had I got from Path Valley in 1986. She was by far
the smartest ferret I've ever had or even seen, and she was really sweet. The
article said the food had 2 parts phophorous for every 1 part calcium. Is this
too much phosphorous or too little calcium? The article was really sad. Ferrets
were losing their teeth, their jaws were collapsing, babies were being born
without backs and with twisted limbs, etc. What was it about this food that
could do all that?!
[Moderator's note: This was discussed quite a bit in FMLs 1150-1152 and 1157,
I think. Probably no need to get into details again so soon? BIG]

Next, one of my ferrets has insulinomas and I've been giving her Brewer's
yeast. I think it is giving her gas (is that possible?), and a while back
someone told me it was the chromium in the yeast that was important. Is that
correct, and is there an alternative source of chromium I can give her if
that's true (that won't give her gas)? Also, she is supposed to start chemo
for lymphoma soon, but yesterday she was showing major signs of hypoglycemia.
I was wondering if she should have insulinoma surgery or lymphoma chemo first.
I know they will both be hard on her. Will chemo for lymphoma affect her
insulinomas? Thanks! Katrina Ramsell
