Hi all-
 
I believe that Sharon read that story in Judith Bells's book _Ferrets in
your house_ (or is that home?).  She started out with pet skunks, but said
that they were like houseplants--interesting to look at, but behaviorally
pretty boring.
 
Lucky for us she fell in love with ferrets.  I learned a lot about ferrets
from that book.  It was one of the first books on ferrets that I read.
