Okay, I promised I'd post this yesterday, but I was a little bummed, and
didn't get to it.

I attended the Board of Health meeting on Monday as an observer. We were
expecting that the city would agree that ferrets were acceptable pets for
the City, but we were disapointed. The revised language for the wild
animal rules reads:

The Department has historicly regarded ferrets as wild animals and
prohibited their possession because of a number of public health and safty
concerns. [...] The primary public safety concern is that the ferret,
despite any possible popularity as a household pet, remains prone to
vicious, unpredictable attacks on humans, particularly very young children
and infants.

The public hearing on this matter is going to be June 3, 1999, from 10:00
to 12 noon, in the second floor auditorium at 125 Worth Street, New York,
New York.

If you'd like to speek, you need to notify in writing, Patricia J. Caruso,
secretary, 125 Worth STreet, New York, New York - CN 31, by June 1, 1999.

Please come out, and help us (politely) tell the City they're full of beans.
