My mom called me yesterday because she gets the Costco magazine in the
mail.  Inside it featured some of the small business owners that have been
successful and have shopped in their store(s).  My mom got really excited
when she saw a picture of some ferrets.  Turns out that Mary and Eric of
Modern Ferret were featured.
 
I had to then explain to my mom, why I do not support their magazine.
 
I like to see ferrets featured in publications.  This magazine goes out
across the nation and I hope that it wont encourage people to go out and
get a ferret.  What is next?  Ferret toys and supplies at Costco?  Now
that would be something!
 
Either way, I found out that this is a very inexpensive way to market your
business.  Perhaps some of the shelter operators that shop at Costco could
get in on the hoopla?  Then again, shelters are non-profit where as Modern
Ferret magazine is a profitable business, so I guess it would not qualify.
 
Just found this interesting, and unexpected.  I am calling Costco today to
find out how small businesses are featured and if you have to contact them
or if they contact you.  This is a great idea for my small business owning
friends who shop there.  More power to free marketing tactics!  Perhaps
Modern Ferret would offer a discounted subscription to Costco members?
