I'm sure that it is a personal thing that depends on the particular vet,
the disposition of the ferret and how well the owner can control it.  My
vet cleans the teeth of my three every time he sees them.  No anesthesia
needed.  That's about twice a year.
 
I haven't tried the tartar control treats yet.  Gotta look for those and
see how they work.
