The FDA is making its info available here:

http://www.fda.gov/oc/opacom/hottopics/petfood.html

and

http://www.fda.gov/cvm/petfoods.htm#newsreleases

the AVMA page with its released information:

and the ASPCA's here:

One thing currently being considered is that a compound, melamine,
which has very low toxicity for humans may be more dangerous to
carnivores, especially for cats. The compound is used in manufacture
of plastics and some other things (including of some fertilizers) and
can be a by-product of some pesticides.

(BTW, those wanting to read the non-binding guidelines raw pet food
makers -- something I know a member of either the FHL or FML asked
for in the not terribly distant past, but I can't recall who, will
find this useful:
http://www.fda.gov/cvm/Guidance/Guide122.pdf
and this
http://www.fda.gov/cvm/CVM_Updates/rawdiet.htm
and I apologize for not finding them till I happened upon them
tonight.)
