We've only had two ferrets so far who could manage to get these open... but
you never know when another one will figure it out!  Securing a clothes pin
(spring-loaded wooden kind) to one of the vertical cage members just above
the sliding horizontal bar has foiled them completely.  A spring latch such
as the kind used on dog leashes (or a carabiner) can also be used to latch
the sliding bar to the fixed horizontal bar on the door.  Just depends on
what you have lying around the house, I guess.
