I have had good success catching ferret-food-eating mice using a metal
Hav-a-Heart trap, baited with either peanut butter or ferret food. I put
it out at night after the fuzzies are tucked up in their cage, and usually
capture the mouse within a night or two.

You have to release the mouse at least a mile away or it will find its way
back to your home. I take mine to the dumpster at MacDonalds, where it can
feast on french fries.
