Bonjour!

DIAZOXIDE:
I posted more than a week ago but didn't receive any answer, so I will try
to reformulate my question...

Victor (around 6 years, 4 lbs, lot of fat in the abdomen) had a surgery for
insulomina and adrenal last year. Since then, he has to take pred. We had
to increase the pred recently to 3.5 mg in the morning and 2.5 at night +
Diazoxide 5mg X 3times a day. He seems to have reaction 20 minutes after
taking the diazoxide: he's weak but try to walk around like if he wants to
find a good spot, he keeps his head up even he's in is basket, he shows
signs of tachycardia, etc... After an other 20 minutes or so, he's OK
again. Does someone else experienced that??? I would like to receive
comments of people who have to give diazoxide to their ferret and comments
of vets... I don't want to let him suffer and I'm not sure if it's not what
I'm doing actually...

STUDY OF SLEEP IN THE FERRET...
One of my colleage (specialist in sleeping disorders) sent me a paper:

Marks Gerald S. and Shaffery James p.: A preliminary Study of Sleep in the
Ferret, Mustela putorius furo: A Carnivore With an Extremely High
proportion of REM Sleep. Sleep 19 (2):83-93, 1996.

They observerd that ferrets spend over 60% of the time in sleep and 40% of
total sleep time in REM sleep (the highest proportion recorded for any
animal to date!!!).

They qualified ferrets as moderately long sleepers. Cats sleep 55% of the
time, when brown bat sleep 83%, opossum (81%), and armadillo (77%).

The daily amount of time spent in REM sleep (24.4%) is extraordinary far
exceeding that of the cat (13.4%) and rivaled only with oposum (27.5%) and
armadillo (25.1%). Ferrets have a high number of REM sleep episodes (mean:
ferret, 61.7, cat, 34.4) mean rather than long REM periods. The REM period
lengths (5.6 minutes) are the same as those in cat (5.7 minutes).

So is there volunteers to sleep with a bat or an armardillo to validate
theirs observations?!?! ;)))

ENGLAND...
Is there people from England on the list??? I'm going to London at the end
of may, but will try to spend 4 days in the country around. And guess what!
I would like to see british ferrets. So if someone can give me clues,
adresses, names, etc...

Thank you...
