Debi - you may not be able to totally predict but you sure DO make all
sorts of CHOICES which is what these shelter people are talking about.
You cant just pay lip service to words like committment. Someone just sent
me a job ad right up my alley in England - itd be great, timing's actually
pretty right, better money, except my ferrets are 5 and my dog is getting
elderly. You know what? The job in England would be awesome but I'm doing
ok here too so I'm going to wait. Maybe it'll never happen. I'm not
patting myself on the shoulder - but that's an example of CHOICES, not
"your well I don't know where I'll be in 10 years" la de da.

Depends on what you mean by best interest doesn't it? =20

Hmmm - people are unable to change? Be educated? So its ok to be
irresponsible, selfish, self centered? Into immediate gratification no
matter what the cost to the animal? Just give up on people? Pretty
cynical - when I was a teenager I loved animals but i've got to say I
wasn't the best animal owner - I wasn't quite as bad as some have described
but almost. I've LEARNED over the years. I think more before I act.
Would I love a second dog? Yes, but I travel too much and only have time
to give to the 3 animals I have - its about them too, not just my WANTS.

Meanwhile - I didn't see any earth shattering ideas on HOW to HELP THE
FERRETS. Personally I say don't sell them in pet stores is the number 1
way to start.

Last - when I got my first ferret (dumped on me by my nephew, in college)
Rick was there for me, all the way from MI to TX . In 5 years on FML more
shelters have closed than I can count. The number of people, who upon
hearing I have ferrets say "oh I had a ferret once" is like a gizzillion.
The number of people who had one all the way till it died of old age is
like 2 or something. Rick has HELPED A LOT OF FERRETS Debi. You go Rick.

Mary in MI

"For that which befalleth the sons of men befalleth beasts;
even one thing befalleth them: as the one dieth, so dieth the other;
yea they have all one breath;
so that a man hath no preeminence above a beast:
for all is vanity. "
Ecclesiastes 3:19
