Greetings all, This is to the kind hearted folks who write the
wonderful greetings to our ferrets who are starting out in a new
realm of existence on the other side of the Rainbow Bridge.

I've been rescuing these wonderful animals for right at 7 years and up
until now, we've been so blessed as we haven't lost one single baby to
the bridge. Please be on the look-out for Jack, of Jack & Jill. Jack
was featured on the Ferret Giving Tree these past two years, last year
I put him and his sissy Jill on there again because they are very old
(8, judging from their teeth) and Jack has been suffering with IBD,
Insulinoma and Adrenal Disease most of his life with us and I didn't
think Jack was going to be able to hang on for another year.

Originally Jack and Jill were purchased for a very young human girl,
5 or 6 years old tops, judging by the child's age minus the age the
ferrets were when we got them. Another clue was their names that we've
changed for their new lives. *A New Name for A New Life!* They were
Clifford and Ginger, and I know of one very young children's cartoon
show that features "Clifford the Big Red Dog".

We've had the pleasure of caring for and knowing him and his sister
for just over 2 and 1/2 years. When we went to pick them up from their
previous humans in Houston, TX. we didn't think Jack was going to make
it to the end of the 100+ mile trip home, let alone two and a half more
years! Jack went to the doctor early the next morning and he'd been
suffering with IBD for probably years locked up in the cage. Nobody
noticed or cared that he was sick and I'm sure this was his first vet
visit. Adrenal Disease and Insulinoma came later and he was feeling
better during the time he was with us but only felt like playing once
in his life as far as we know, I think it was because it was all
strange to him. Jack didn't know what a treat was or toys or anything
and he'd been kept in his cage all of his life until we "rescued" him &
sister Jill! At our house he was never caged and his food and water
bowls always, always were full and available which is normal care
for all of us but to Jack & Jill it was probably the biggest & best
exhibition of "LOVE" they'd been shown in their life!

*Please read Jack and Jill's story on our website at the following
address:

Then click on any of the links above the "donate" button and below
"Baby Abandoned in Park", this will open a new window, our "special
stories" page.

Anyone who was lucky enough to get to meet Jack would instantly be in
Love with his sweet disposition and wonderful personality! Jack is
survived by 28 ferrets that he loved dearly but only to cuddle and
sleep with in a pile. Jack's favorite ferret and the love of his life
is Jill, We think that all of Jack's illnesses, especially the IBD that
was untreated for most likely 4 or more years and his age just took
away his will to live! I think it also motivated him to go to the
bridge so he could feel good again and to wait and make ready a place
to share with his sister Jill and all their new friends. Jack is the
first of our clan to go to the bridge so please try to find him some
new friends to hang out with while he waits for his sister and the
other friends he made while here at the shelter.

Sincerely,
Micheal Forrest, Ferret Rescue and Adoption of South Texas
