Advantage is safe to use on ferrets! The recommended dose is actually a
whole tube of the less than 9 lbs cat size. It should be safe if they
lick a small amount of it too, but it is better to apply it on the neck
where they can not reach it. Jerry Murray, DVM

The recommended dose for Revoultion is actually 1 full tube of the 5-15
lb cat size. The reason they recommend the higher dose is for heartworm
prevention! At the 0-5 lb cat size, 10% of the ferrets (1 out of 10)
still got heartworms, but none of the 10 ferrets got heartworms with the
5-15 lb size! They are not sure if it is because of the thick skin on
the ferrets neck that Revolution is not absorb as well in ferrets as
it is in cats or if they just need more of the product to be effective
against heartworms (cats require higher doses of Heartgard/ivermectin
and Interceptor than dogs do). Cost wise the 0-5 and 5-15 lb cat are
the same price per tube, so you should use the 5-15 lb cat size if you
also want heartworm prevention!

Hope that clears things up,
Jerry Murray, DVM
