It seems that lots of people are asking for advice about scales lately. I
got one last year as a Valentines Day gift (I know...so romantic, eh?). It
is a Pelouze model, digital, weighs pounds and ounces as well as Grams, up
to ten pounds. I use a Rubbermaid type of plastic container to set on top
of it, set the sacle at "Zero" with the container on it, and then put in
the ferret. Usually a tube of Nutrical or similar treat to lick while
weighing will hold them still to get a very accurate weight. The scale was
purchased at one of the National Office Supply Chains (Staples/Office Depot
type of place) for about $60.

Hope this helps!

PS- My vet uses the same scale :-)
