To all,

I don't know whether this has made it to the FML but it was emailed to me
and I thought it may be useful to pass it on.

Thanks
N Potter

The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) is
responding to the plight of animals as a result of the World Trade Center
disaster.

The ASPCA has set up a command center and pet rescue hotline in response
to the plight of pets affected by the World Trade Center disaster. The
ASPCA command center is located at the corner of Houston Street and West
Street at Pier 40. The ASPCA command center has a fully equipped
veterinary mobile medical unit, emergency medical supplies, pet carriers,
pet food, and a psychologist trained to help with pet related issues.

In addition, pet owners may call to report their pet as abandoned. The
number is (212)-876-7700 x4PET. An ASPCA Law Enforcement Officer will be
dispatched from the command center and escort pet owners to the location
of their pet. The ASPCA has coordinated their effort with the New York
City government and will be assisted by the New York City Parks Department
to gain access to buildings.

Although, it is not ideal, pets (dogs and cats) can survive without food
and water for several days. If you know of a pet that has been left
behind, please take the following steps to help:

' If you know of a pet in your building that is alone and your building
has not been evacuated, The ASPCA urges you to get involved and help.
Attempt to gain entry to your neighbor's apartment, and provide food,
water and exercise.

' The ASPCA is prepared to help animals with medical conditions that are a
result of this terrible tragedy. The ASPCA offers medical services at
Bergh Memorial Hospital from 7:00AM to 7:00PM Monday through Friday and
from 8:30 AM to 3:00 PM on Saturdays.
