Quick note: ever since the USDA approved a real Rabies vaccine, the DFG has
been ordered to massively ease restrictions on California vets that treat
our ferrets.  Most vets know this already; with no exceptions that I know of
it's completely safe to take ferrets to any vet.
 
Now, whether the vet knows ferts is a different issue.  Dayna Frasier and
the LIFE organization both have excellent lists of known-good vets, and I
think CDFA does too.
 
If you don't know a good vet in your area, find one ASAP *before* you have a
sudden crisis.  Failing that, CDFA has some contact voice numbers on their
website at www.cdfa.com, try them in a pinch perhaps.  Worst case, call
*any* local vet, they may know what other vet does a lot of fert
business...and as things are now, don't fear getting turned in.
