In response to Ronnie DiComo's posting in the 6/22 - 6/23 FML...
>Also, what do Michigan people think about a boycott? I would like to see
>it happen (yes I agree, it won't cause the economy of Michigan to collapse,
>but I think it will let more people know what is going on and, as Steve
>said, I would also feel better). I also think it's very important to let
>people know what the goal is: we boycott MI until ferrets get a quarantine,
>same as dogs and cats.

For starters, the idea of boycotting Michigan is just plain silly. Can you
imagine just how many things you'd have to boycott? Here's a list just off
the top of my head...

-Most Internet sites, because AGIS is one of the largest backbone providers,
and they're based out of Dearborn Mich.
-Virtually any car. Obviously the "Big 3" are out of the question, but
Isuzu, Kia, Mazda, and Suzuki all have regional (or national) headquarters,
and/or production plants in Southeast Michigan
-Any type of cereal made by Kellogg's
-K-Mart, Builders Square, or Super K-Mart (Nat'l Headquarters are in
 Michigan)
-Any medication made by McKesson (R&D departments are in Michigan)
-Movies that use Technicolor
-Any videocassette from Fox

Let's be realistic. There aren't enough people who are willing to totally
boycott every product that somehow generates money for the State of
Michigan. It's a very nice sentiment, that some of you are willing to
initiate such a boycott, but people just aren't going to notice.

Also, there was a posting on Pepita's Mailing List a couple of weeks ago,
which showed the bill that Senator Dingell was proposing to the Michigan
Legislature, suggesting that ferrets get the same quarantine as dogs and
cats.

>This is something MI folks already know, but I just learned: before ferrets
>were legal in MI, the MI gov't people entered the apt of a ferret owner who
>wasn't home, confiscated the ferret, and shot the ferret a few days
>later--this was just for possession of an illegal ferret (no bite or
>anything). For those of us who think we live in a country where things like
>this don't happen--think again. I was horrified.

And you don't think this has happened in California? Do you honestly
believe that Michigan is the ONLY state that has EVER? Of course not!
Perhaps we should boycott movies, and television, and anything else that
generates money for California. Maybe we should get a list of every state,
and every country that is not ferret-friendly, and boycott them, too.
