Just to make sure that you understand, Prednisone is not a cure for
insulinoma.  It alleviates the symptoms for a time.  Dr. Weiss is one of
the best vets in the country for treating insulinoma, so your ferret is in
good hands.
 
Generally, if the insulinoma is in the early stages and the ferret is
otherwise in good health, surgery is usually the best option.  Dr. Weiss
removes up to 1/3 of the pancreas.  That may delay recurrence of the signs
for well over a year, at which point, another surgery is an option or
Prednisone treatment may be started.  With surgery and luck, the ferret may
live for several years.  With Prednisone only; perhaps a year to a year and
a half.
