I am not sure, but I know that several of the ferrets that we have adopted
out come back to us regularly for boarding and visiting, and they sure seem
to remember their way around and into trouble the second they arrive :-).

I think the question needs to be broken up a little. If I adopted out a
ferret three years ago, and it hasn't been back since, I wouldn't expect
it to remember me, the house or any ferrets that it interacted with. Same
goes for a ferret who was only in shelter for a couple weeks, even a couple
of months after it was adopted out.

But, a ferret who was in shelter for a long time (a year or more), or one
who visits frequesntly I am sure remembers.

On to my question. Does anyone have any data on the percentage of
waardenburg ferrets who are deaf? I am just curious. I have 2 blazes and
a panda, one blaze is stone deaf, and the other two have selective hearing.
OK, I guess all ferrets have that :-) I am just wondering, as I have read
anywhere from 10% to 80% are deaf. Anyone have any data or references on
this?
