Please be aware that I am posting anonymously because I live in a FFZ, not
for fear of being flamed.

No transportation=good reason not to adopt?! I can only hope this is not a
"blanket" rule! OK...if someone lives in the middle of nowhere, miles
from the nearest vet, has no avaliable friends or family with a car...then
MAYBE. BUT... where I come from, (urban/suburban area) many excellent
ferret owners do not have "personal" transportation and depend on friends,
cabs and public transportation to get ferrets to the vet. Heck, when I was
broke & in college (and without a car) and a roommate's child pulled the
skin off my pet rat's tail (required emergency surgery) my other roommate
was glad to give me a ride to the vet right away.

But I guess for some people it is better for a ferret to live its days in
shelter cage than risk the chance it may one day arrive a few minutes later
to vet's. I'm sorry for the sarcasm but this ticks me off. I recently
visited a shelter/breeder (won't say where) where there were approximatley
200 ferrets stacked in cages who were "lucky" if they got a chance to be
put in larger "play cages" for an hour or 2 every day or 2 and who had
their litter boxes cleaned once a week. I'm sorry, but if this (or
anything similar) is the alternative, I'll vote for the lower-income,
car-less, yet educated & caring ferret-lover every time.
