If you check the FML archives (URL is in the header of this list, and they
are searchable!), you can find a number of suggestions I and others have
posted on repelling ants in the past.
 
One of the suggestions that has always worked well for me is peppermint ..
EO or spirits.  Ants seem to dislike peppermint.  I believe someone else
swore by chalk, and there were some other really good suggestions in
