Hiya,
I'm new to the list and am currently doing my homework in preparation of
joining the great California Ferret Underground. I've come to understand
the responsibilities involved, discovered where to get supplies, vet help
and info, but I'm still trying to figure out where I can get ahold of a
ferret or two in this area ( L.A. / San Bernadino Counties), or possibly
in Nevada. Any help or advice anyone can offer would be greatly
appreciated.

Also, reading through this first digest, I've noticed that there are a lot
of posts about seriuosly sick ferrets. Is this state as common as it seems
to be, or is it just cuz this list is a forum for ferret "problems"? I
don't have a whole lot of extra cash, and if ferrets regularly require such
expensive things as surgery, I don't know if I'm prepared for that. Is it
beacuse ferrets are used in lab tests that they seem to be prone to cancers
and heart problems? Poor things!

One more thing - as a beginning ferret owner, should I be looking into
getting kits or adults or in-between? And does sex matter as far as good
"beginner" temperments and ferret pair compatability?

Thanx for any help!

Elly
