This evening, as BooBoo and Joop helped me do my poetry homework, I noticed
an unatural silence settling over the house. No dooking, no little
scrabbling noises, not even the unwelcome digging-up-the-plant noises ...
total nothingness. So I went a-searchin (ferret hunting!!) until I found
them piled together beneath the Ferret Room Dresser. Making my way back to
the couch, now way behind on my homework, I grumbled, "They shouldn't be
called Ferrets, the should be called Wherrets, cuz I spend half my day
yelling 'Hey!! Where are the ferrets?' and 'My glove! Where's it??'" etc
etc. So much to my surprise, as I sat down to my homework once more, I
found a poem by John Hollander called "Adam's Task" and there's a line in it
that says:

Thou, Pambler; thou, rivarn; thou greater
>Wherret<, and thou, lesser one; ...

My guess is that Mr. Hollander is/was a ferret owner and knew exactly what
he was talking about when he wrote a poem about Adam naming the animals!!

Apparantly he knows Paw Paw too, because the opening lines of the poem go:

Thou, paw-paw-paw; thou, glurd; thou, spotted ....

If the typesetting hadn't been so professional looking, I might have
suspected my ferrets of writing it just to confuddle me!!

BooBoo (So who gets to be the Greater Wherret?)
Joop (Well, I'm no lesser Wherret!)

PS Milo wants me to tell Tater he's sorry about the Tater Chips joke, cuz I
made him play in the snow for a looooong time until he was willing to
apologize. I really gotta change my Login code....
