Max makes a similar throat clearing noise sometimes.  I'm trying increased
laxatone in case it's just hairballs.  If this doesn't seem to work, I'll
take him in to see if it might be a respiratory infection.  He seems pretty
normal and very energetic, so I'm a little skeptical of it being an
infection.  I'm pretty sure the noise has become more frequent lately, and I
haven't been giving him the laxatone as frequently.
