nutering and weightloss

my male ferret was nutered and desented last week on wed. and I noticed
theat my plump little boy was loosing weight very fast, he seemes very
happy other wise, and he is now active, something that he wasnt befor the
sergery.  is this normal?  I had him on puppy food befor the sergery,
should I change him to a high calorie cat or ferret food?  any sugestions
would be appereciated.
