Coccidia. Easily treated with Albon once a day for 5-10 days. We started
on Saturday and there is less diarrhea (lots less) and the ferrets are
beginning to feel better. Of course this could have been serious if we
hadn't treated it right away. Briefly, Coccidia is a natural normally
dormant parasite that lives within but can become active when the conditions
are just right. Stress is what we are guessing caused this outbreak in the
new ones. Till next Saturday night, EVERYONE gets their nightly dose of
Albon and while we're at it they get nails clipped too. :-)

The symptoms we saw were diarrhea and vomiting. A fecal check (a mixed
sample from more than one ferret) showed the parasite. If left untreated
Coccidia has the potential to become deadly and in some case is painful.

Hugs to all. tle
