This is for Rebecca, who posted yesterday on this topic.
 
You are right in guessing that VMD stands for veterinary medical doctor.
The only difference between a DVM and VMD is that VMDs have graduated from
the University of Pennsylvannia.  All other US veterinary schools use DVM.
