Hi,

cage: I would like to know if anyone has had an experience similar to mine.
I bought 2 Midwest ferret playpens model 140. The cage is great even if
there isn't that much actual play space. I plan to put in my own larger
shelves. The only thing that I do not feel comfortable with is that there
is a space of about one inch between the back end of their shelf and the
cage wall, well one of my ferrets got stuck in that space. It has only
happened once but it is a constant worry when they are alone. I've put
various boxes on the shelves, in which they love to sleep, hoping that they
do not get stuck again. I really like the cage but I do not think it was
really made just for ferrets.

litter: what kind of cat litter is best? I know it shouldn't have dust but
can it be deoderized or not? I am using plain non deoderized litter, here
it is called sepiolite, I'm not sure if it is the same in English.
Yesterday I found one called bentonite but I haven't used it yet. It does
not have dust and is supposed to clump when in contact with urine or feces.
Has anyone ever heard of it? Is it safe?

California issue SB55:
I have an idea (which may or not be original or popular). Here in Italy we
pay taxes for everything. Dogs, horses, cars, tv, balconies, drivers
licence, and they are thinking of putting a tax on the number of windows you
have in your house. I know it sounds ridiculous but then just think that we
pay almost 5 dollars per gallon of gasoline. Has anyone ever suggested that
ferrets be legalized as pets but subjecting the owner to an annual fee for a
permit. It could be a start. The fee would be minimal, say $5 or 10
dollars per ferret. The fee would discourage impulse buying of ferrets,
which are usually the ones that end up being abandoned and if it is true
that there are 300.000 ferrets only in California it would make a great
revenue which could also in the long run aid the shelters and would pay any
damage that all these "wild colonies of feral ferrets" would cause. It
might also make the no voters realize the commitment that everyone has
towards their pets. I know you will probably yell at me for the above
however I really think the issue is not ferrets but economics, as it always
is in politics.

The solution is that until ferrets are legalized in California.... just
send the 300.000 ferrets to me in Italy :-))))))) We do not require permits.

Ciao
Roberto

PS
I forgot to ask if you have any nice ferret image with good quality not
scanned (which is usually not very clear) to use for my letterhead. Also I
would like to create my italian homepage...If you have anything simple and
nice to send me or suggest, I would really appreciate.

Ciao Again, Roberto
