Connie, we have one cat who will play with just about anyone/anything.  I
think that as long as they're raised together, and allowed to play (Blaise
and Rosie can play kinda rough), they should be fine.  But, if the kitten
tries to get away from the ferret by jumping up on furniture etc., they
might not be the best of friends.  It all depends on personality.
