Dear Cheryl,
 
It is possible to make a perfectly serviceable hammock with no sewing at
all.  Take a piece of polar fleece and cut out a square large enough for
the little ones to comfortably lie on.  But instead of cutting right at the
corners of the square, leave a strip of fabric about one inch wide by one
foot long coming out of each corner.  These strips can be used to tie the
hammock onto the bars of a wire cage.  Pile a few cozy blankies on the
hammock, and you're all set!
