If you go to Home Depot, in the insecticide section you will find Boric
Acid, in the powder form.  I am not 100% sure, but I think it is safe
for animals... you sprinkle it around the perimeter of your house, and
I suppose anywhere you believe they're getting in, and supposedly they
won't cross over the Boric acid line.  I don't think it poisons them, it
just deters them from coming in.
 
If anyone has more infor on Boric acid and ants, please share.  Maybe
you'll find it online.  It is a natural substance, and definitely not
harmful to people.
