>Subject: Colloidal silver: where to get it

Unfortunately more fallcious points were brought up. <sigh>

>I'm finding the information posted by Zen and Mel about colloidal silver
>amusing; my sources of information about colloidal silver were not
>reputable sources, Zen?

No. They aren't reputable sources. I don't actually trust your citations.
You are quoting the exact same things posted on all the colloidal silver
hype web pages. I have already pointed out flaws in some of your sources.
It is very disturbing that extremely misleading citations that seem more
fictional than scientific are the strongest claims for colloidal silver.

>Dr. Leonard Keene Hirschberg, A.M, M.D. of Johns Hopkins

I can find no evidence of this doctor at Johns Hopkins. There is no
evidence of his name in any web based document at Johns Hopkins. None.
Perhaps he was a student at some point. He doesn't appear to be on staff.
Perhaps someone lied to you Ela.

Perhaps his credentials are no better than the physicist that was passed
off as an MD.

>I also have study reports supporting colloidal silver's efficacy from Johns
>Hopkins and Syracuse University

I also searched all the on-line documents that Johns Hopkins has on
colloidal silver. None. So I searched colloidal alone and found 91
mostly in the chemical engineering area where they are actually talking
about colloids. None in medical except a use of large colloids as
radiopharmaceuticals. No mention of colloidal silver at all.

I'd be real interested in that document you have.

As for Syracuse University, they do have a research center for "Nursing and
Health Care" that doesn't seem as prominent as their other areas. It has
no web page for that center which is a part of the College of Nursing.
I've not noted Nursing schools to be big on research into medicines.

A pre-emptive debunk. Some colloidal silver web pages cite a Dr. Robert
O Becker of the Upstae Medical Center, Syracuse University. I can find
neither this supposed doctor nor this medical center at Syracuse
university. There IS the SUNY UPSTATE MEDICAL CENTER that is in Syracuse
NY but not a part of Syracuse University. I was unable to perform a
faculty search when I reached the Health Science Center web page. There
is a Dr. Robert Becker that wrote the body electric. His areas of interest
seem to be amphibian limb regeneration and acupunture. I don't know the
accuracy of citing him to promote colloidal silver.

>Anyway, I have gotten TONS of email asking where to get colloidal silver,

This is what really scares us. You are pushing an evil upon unsuspecting
ferret owners that want to do right by their ferrets. Colloidal silver has
NO scientific backing that I have ever been able to find. None. Zilch.
Zero. Nada.

>Please beware of products with higher concentrations, as they can attack
>friendly bacteria in your system the same way some prescription antibiotics
> do and this could upset your body's natural balance.

Heres is another fallacious a point mentioned often by c-s zealots. They
make the ludicrous assertion that colloidal silver only kills the bad
bacteria and not the good bacteria.

That is not plausible. There is extremely little chance that such a
simplistic formulation could actually discern between the two types.

Most if not all of the anecdotes about ferrets saved by colloidal silver
are really about ferrets that would have gotten better anyway. The silver
is much more likely to have hurt them than helped them. I'm sorry to those
that really believe that colloidal silver has helped your ferrets. But all
evidence points to the care for the ferret despite the colloidal silver
helped the ferrets. Misdiagnosis happen. Some ferrets have an almost
miraculous abilty to get better when you wouldn't expect them to. Its not
the colloidal silver.

When some true medical/scientific testing is performed and colloidal
silver actually is shown to be beneficial I will change my mind. I use
herbal rememdies on myself on occaision. These can frequently have a
basis in science. But I will not use a known poison like colloidal silver
on my ferrets.
